This Privacy Policy explains how Browser Assist ("the Extension", "we", "our", or "us") processes information when you use the Extension.

Browser Assist allows users to control webpages and common browser actions using voice commands.

We aim to process only the information that is reasonably necessary to provide the Extension's functionality, security, and reliability.

1. Information the Extension Processes

Voice Commands

The Extension uses the browser's speech recognition functionality to convert spoken commands into text.

The Extension does not intentionally record, store, or send raw microphone audio to our backend servers.

Examples of supported commands may include:

• "Scroll down"
• "Open the TypeScript tutorial"
• "Click Sign In"
• "Go to the next tab"

Recognized Command Text

Many common commands are processed locally inside the Extension using its built-in command parser.

When a command cannot be understood locally, the recognized command text may be sent to our backend service for AI-assisted interpretation.

We do not use recognized command text for targeted advertising or advertising profiling.

2. Page Context Used for AI Commands

Certain natural-language commands require limited information about the webpage currently being used.

For example, when a user says:

the Extension may need to identify which visible link or control on the page matches that request.

When necessary, the Extension may process and send a limited and sanitized description of visible interactive webpage elements.

This may include:

• Page title
• Sanitized page URL or URL path
• Visible button text
• Visible link text
• Element labels
• ARIA labels
• Placeholder text
• Element titles
• Element types
• Limited metadata about visible interactive elements

The Extension limits the number and size of webpage elements included in AI processing.

3. Sensitive Information We Do Not Intentionally Collect

The Extension is designed to avoid sending sensitive user-entered information for AI page-context processing.

We do not intentionally collect or transmit:

• Password values
• Text entered into password fields
• Values entered into ordinary input fields
• Textarea contents
• User-entered content from editable areas
• Cookies
• Authentication tokens
• Browser local storage contents
• Browser session storage contents
• Full webpage HTML
• Files stored on your device
• Raw microphone audio sent to our backend
• Complete browsing history

Password fields are excluded from AI page-context collection.

URL query parameters are removed from page context where applicable to reduce the risk of transmitting tokens or other sensitive information contained in URLs.

4. Local Processing

The Extension attempts to process supported browser commands locally whenever possible.

For example, common recognized commands such as scrolling may be processed without contacting the AI service.

AI processing is used primarily as a fallback when additional natural-language understanding or webpage context is necessary.

5. Anonymous Installation Identifier

The Extension generates a random anonymous installation identifier and stores it locally using Chrome extension storage.

This identifier may be used for technical purposes including:

• Rate limiting
• Abuse prevention
• API infrastructure protection
• Service usage management

The identifier is not intended to directly identify you and is not used to create an advertising profile.

6. Artificial Intelligence Processing

When AI interpretation is required, the Extension sends the recognized command and, when necessary, limited sanitized webpage context to our backend server.

Our backend may then send the information necessary to interpret the command to Google's Gemini API.

Google therefore acts as a third-party service provider involved in processing AI-assisted commands.

Information sent for AI processing is used to determine the browser action requested by the user.

AI responses are treated as structured data. The Extension does not intentionally execute arbitrary JavaScript or other executable code returned by the AI service.

AI-generated browser commands are validated before execution.

7. How We Use Information

Information processed through the Extension is used only as reasonably necessary to:

• Understand voice commands
• Determine requested browser actions
• Identify relevant visible webpage elements
• Execute user-requested browser actions
• Prevent abuse
• Apply rate limits
• Protect the Extension and backend infrastructure
• Maintain service reliability
• Diagnose technical failures when necessary

We do not use Extension data for targeted advertising.

8. Data Storage and Retention

The anonymous installation identifier is stored locally in your browser.

The Extension does not intentionally maintain a permanent history of your voice commands or webpage context in your browser.

Our production systems are designed not to intentionally log complete AI prompts, passwords, sensitive form values, or raw microphone audio.

Limited technical logs may be maintained when reasonably necessary for:

• Security
• Reliability
• Abuse prevention
• Rate limiting
• Troubleshooting

Technical logs may include information such as request timestamps, response status, service errors, and rate-limit events.

Third-party service providers may process information according to their own applicable terms and privacy policies.

9. Browser Permissions

Tabs

Tab access is used to perform browser actions requested by the user, such as:

• Creating tabs
• Closing tabs
• Switching tabs
• Reloading pages
• Navigating backward or forward

Storage

Chrome extension storage is used for limited technical information such as the anonymous installation identifier and temporary Extension state.

Website Access

The Extension requires access to webpages because its primary purpose is to allow users to interact with webpages using voice commands.

This access may be used to perform user-requested actions such as:

• Scrolling
• Identifying visible interactive elements
• Clicking buttons or links
• Focusing webpage controls
• Typing user-requested text into webpage fields
• Performing other supported browser interactions requested by the user

Website access is not intended to be used to create a browsing profile for advertising purposes.

10. Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information collected through the Extension.

Information may be shared with service providers only when reasonably necessary to operate the Extension and provide its user-facing functionality.

For AI-assisted command interpretation, limited information may be processed using Google's Gemini API as described in this Privacy Policy.

We may also disclose information when required by applicable law, legal process, or when reasonably necessary to protect the security and integrity of the Extension or our services.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical measures intended to protect information processed through the Extension.

These measures may include:

• HTTPS communication with our backend
• Server-side API credentials
• Request validation
• Rate limiting
• Restricted production CORS configuration
• Limits on AI page-context size
• Sanitization of webpage context
• Exclusion of password values
• Avoidance of user-entered form values in AI context
• Validation of AI-generated browser commands

However, no internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security.

12. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not specifically designed or directed toward children under the age at which consent to data processing may be required under applicable law.

We do not knowingly use the Extension to collect personal information from children for advertising or profiling purposes.

13. Third-Party Websites

The Extension operates on websites that may not be owned or controlled by us.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices, security, content, or policies of third-party websites that you visit or interact with.

Your use of those websites remains subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

We may update this Privacy Policy when the Extension's features, data practices, third-party services, or applicable requirements change.

When changes are made, the Last Updated date at the top of this page will be updated.

Material changes to how information is processed will be reflected in this Privacy Policy as appropriate.
